Discover what we do

The Problem

Technology impacts people & planet. It does so at local and global levels; it has effects on both users and workers; and it impacts us both individually and societally. As developers of technology, we need to address these impacts together.

It is estimated that digital technology is responsible for approximately 3.7% of global greenhouse gas emissions. People’s digital freedoms are at risk as never before in history, both through data capitalism and state surveillance. Digital sovereignty and autonomy are increasingly becoming a basic need for people, organizations and governments, to provide a counterweight against growing tech monopolies and ‘lock-in’. Finally, despite decades of tech development, labor standards remain an issue of enormous concern in the digital industry.

The Solution

We believe that organisations have a responsibility to offer solutions and services that have a positive impact on end-users, workers and our planet.

It was through this common ideology that we created FairTEC: a trade association of commercial organizations committed to making ethical and fair information technology (IT). We are working together to offer credible, more ethical alternatives to mainstream Big Tech in order to create a paradigm shift towards products that are great to use AND great for people and the planet.

We CAN improve our digital technologies. Together,
let’s redefine the system.

What drives us.

our values

Sustainability

Reduce the environmental impact of smartphones, cloud services and mobile subscriptions, by focusing on repairability, ethically sources materials and renewable energy use.

Digital Freedom

Choose operating systems, apps and server software that help people protect their digital freedoms, such as their privacy and unrestricted and unmonitored access to a free internet.

Digital sovereignty

Offer software and hardware that help people, organizations and governments to have autonomy and freedom to migrate, as opposed to locking them into technology monopolies.

Good labor conditions

Make sure that the tech we use is made by people working in good labor conditions and work with partners to make this the dominant production ecosystem.

What we work on.

our joint projects

Commercial partnerships

We collaborate commercially on projects, such as joint discounts, pitches to each other’s customer bases, working together to address the B2C and B2B markets, and more.

Lobbying together

We join forces in lobbying for tech regulation that stimulates ethical and fair technology development and commercialization.

Fairness collaborations

Where we can, we learn from and support each other’s efforts to make technology production and commercialization in the world fair and ethical.

Marketing & communications

We combine our strengths in marketing & communications, through joint blogs, vlogs, social media posts and media articles. We also love going to events together!
